The revolutionary musician in exile, hailed as the Bob Dylan of Iran, performs visionary music blending Persian classical with rock and blues. Born in 1976 in Khorasan Province, an epicentre of poetry and music in north-eastern Iran, Mohsen Namjoo is a singer-songwriter, music scholar and setar (traditional Persian lute) player now based in New York City. Namjoo’s music reflects the divisions in Iranian society – one of the factors that have led to comparisons with Dylan. His fusion of the ancient with the modern, his astonishing voice, and his effortless mixture of music from East and West have cemented his reputation as a leading figure in contemporary world music.
